See The Big Picture

If you already have a regular devotion habit that's great! If not, use this section to help you to study the bible every day!

See the Big Picture!

When you read the bible (or try to!) do you feel lost because you can't see how it's all connected? Do you understand what happens to ideas like the "the temple" between the Old and the New Testaments? We'd love for you to join us on a journey with the book God's Big Picture - Tracing the storyline of the Bible by Vaughan Roberts.

One Coherent Kingdom Story:

The Bible has lots of different human authors, but Christians believe that the whole bible is inspired by God. God is the main author behind every book and has co-ordinated the whole book to tell one coherent story.

Vaughan uses the idea of "Kingdom" to help us see the overarching storyline of the bible. In the following weeks we will look at:

Old Testament: 1. The pattern of the kingdom (Eden) 2. The perished kingdom (Fall) 3. The promised kingdom (Abraham) 4. The partial kingdom (Israel) 5. The prophesied kingdom (Prophets)

New Testament:

6. The present kingdom (Jesus) 7. The proclaimed kingdom (Church Age) 8. The perfected kingdom (Future)

Study Guide:

Monday: 2 Timothy 3:16 - What is scripture useful for? Which of these aspects do you apply? Which do you neglect?

Tuesday: 1 Thessalonians 2:13 - What is the difference between human word and the word of God? In what ways have you observed the word of God "at work in you who believe"?

Wednesday: 2 Peter 3:16 - Peter is writing in defence of Paul. How might people respond when scripture is hard to understand? What is the consequence?

Thursday: John 5:39-40 - Jesus is talking to the Jewish leaders about the Old Testament scripture. What does Jesus say the Old Testament is about? Based on what Jesus says, what is the link between the Old Testament and the New Testament?

Friday: Luke 24:27 - After resurrection Jesus leads a bible study with some disciples. How does Jesus explain the connection between the Old and New Testament? Which Old Testament passages do you struggle to see a link with the New Testament?
