If you already have a regular devotion habit that's great! If not, use this section to help you to study the bible every day!
Sword Practice Tip:
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword." (Hebrews 4:12)
Consistency is more important than quantity. It's better to read a few verses each day than to read a whole chapter and then feel too daunted to go back to the bible for a month.
The Perfected Kingdom (Future):
Study based on God's Big Picture: Tracing the storyline of the bible, by Vaughan Roberts.
We have seen how everything that was disappointing in the Old Testament find it's satisfaction in Jesus. The kingdom has arrived but not in full. In fact, we have been waiting for 2000 years for Jesus to return and bring the time for the perfected kingdom of God. Even though it seems like a long time, the bible says "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)
The letters in the bible (Romans - Jude) guide us as we live as strangers in this world anticipating God's perfected kingdom. The book of Revelation, as well as other parts of the bible, give us a hint about what this perfected kingdom will look like. God will sit on the throne, the current allowance given to Satan and rebellious sinners will be put to an end and punished. Babylon which is a symbol of societal human arrogance and pride will fall. A new creation will be established and our hearts will be made new so that we can submit joyfully to God's rule and blessing. I know I personally am looking forward to: a new body, eternal rest, meaningful work without frustration, no death, no crying, no pain and most of all a sin-free heart!
